A major milestone has been achieved within the HYDRA project with the successful installation of the hydrogen leakage detection system developed by AUTOMA at the facilities of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). The installation activities took place on 22 and 23 July 2026, bringing together technical experts from AUTOMA and personnel from CERTH.

The newly installed monitoring system has been specifically designed to detect and monitor potential hydrogen leakages, contributing to the safe operation of hydrogen infrastructures and supporting the deployment of reliable hydrogen technologies.

As part of the system validation activities, the sensor has been installed at CERTH’s hydrogen storage facility, where hydrogen will be produced by an electrolyser developed under the EU-funded 24/7 ZEN project. This real-life operational environment will provide valuable conditions for assessing the performance of the technology.

Within the HYDRA project, the monitoring campaign will continue until the end of the project, generating valuable operational data and supporting ongoing research and development activities aimed at further advancing AUTOMA’s next-generation hydrogen leakage detection system.

The HYDRA consortium looks forward to the insights that will be generated through the monitoring activities at CERTH, further strengthening the project contribution to the safe and sustainable deployment of hydrogen technologies across Europe.
